“Spare Your Darlings” (working title) is an audacious circus stand-up comedy show that defies the conventions of traditional art-making. Rooted in the subversive philosophy of salvaging what was meant to be discarded, this performance celebrates the misfits, the discarded ideas, and the ‘darlings’ that were too peculiar, too outrageous, or too nonsensical to survive the typical creative process.
The phrase “Kill your darlings” is often used in creative fields to encourage the elimination of beloved ideas that don’t serve the larger narrative. However, this show asks a different question: Where do these ideas go? What happens to the concepts that were too wild, too unrefined, or simply didn’t fit?
This show is a tribute to the overlooked, the misunderstood, and the almost forgotten. It finds beauty in the ordinary and the strange, in the messy and the absurd. It invites the audience to see the world differently and to appreciate the value of what doesn’t always make sense. “Spare Your Darlings” is a playground for the imagination, a circus of the surreal, and a celebration of the ideas that refuse to die. The setting of the show is a stand-up comedy. The stand-up comedy aspect brings an extra layer of hilarity, where the performers’ quick wit and spontaneous banter keep the audience laughing as hard as they’re gasping at the acrobatics.
The creation process of the show will kick off at the end of 2024 with the premiere set to take place early 2026.
